On May 27th the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) will decide whether to move forward with a requested audit of the Marin & Sacramento family courts. Whether you live in one of these counties or not, we need your help showing the JLAC committee just how impotant this audit is!
Senator Mark Leno (D-Marin), needs our support when he makes this request to the committee. It’s time to mobilize in numbers. Let’s show a united front and move mountains on May 27th! Note: We do NOT expect the format of this hearing to allow for formal testimony, but we absolutely must to show the JLAC committee members that this audit has popular support by packing the room.

How is the audit going for family division in Superior court of Marin.
Are they going toi get away with all their violations

I have not heard anything new on this… We should keep an eye out. If you hear anything, let me know & I will post it. It may take some time before the reports come back; the audit is supposed to take 4 months to complete.
The Center for Judicial Excellence will post updates on the audits and other information on family court injustice, and grassroots reform: http://www.centerforjudicialexcellence.org/
A great source of support, information and action in California is the California Protective Parents Association: http://www.protectiveparents.com/index.html
For anyone who did not hear about the audit…. In July 2009, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (of CA) voted to investigate the family courts in Marin and Sacramento counties for abuses perpetrated by family court specialists, mediators and investigators. The chief complaints being investogated is that family court personnel prolonged disputes in order to generate fees rather than to resolve problems.
Another article to read about California and family court reform is ” Child abuse: when family courts get it wrong” by By Kathleen Russell Kathleen Russell (10/14/2009):
“Protective parents not only lose custody of the children they are trying to protect, but they lose their life savings, too. Many cannot even afford a lawyer to represent their interests, but are saddled with hefty supervised visitation fees and often threatened with a loss of custody if they object to paying the bevy of court-appointed experts that the judge assigns to their case. ..
Fees quickly add up to tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Many such parents go bankrupt, making court appeals impossible. The family law “machine” operates as Big Business..”
